Some of you know that for the past 10 (eek) years, I’ve been running long distance. A friend of mine inspired me when she trained for and ran the Disney Half Marathon. I thought – how cool – I think I can do that. My running partner at the time gave me some reasons why I shouldn’t run the half but the full. Now the arguments for the same 7 months of training time and only an additional $10 bucks for the registration seem pretty funny, but they certainly worked. Quite frankly they changed my life.
Fast forward 10 years. I’ve collected a whole host of medals from a variety of distances. Most of them half marys but 4 fulls. That same friend who inspired me years ago, now sits on the board of the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation and she asked me to design the medal for their fall 5K/10K Race. What a kick for someone who lives in this world and loves a little bling with her finish lines!
The race was about a week and a half ago and it was so inspiring and moving…and HOT! I’ve been in Florida for over 20 years now and it still freaks me out how hot it can be in the middle of September. But seeing survivors and people who are undergoing treatment RIGHT now made the heat such a non-factor. I am proud to say I designed a medal for an organization that truly helps ovarian cancer patients. Now that’s COOL!
Know anyone who needs race graphics? You don’t meet a lot of designers who “toe the line” as we runners like to say. I’m your girl, er fish, er…let’s just stick with designer. I’d love the referral and would love to run your race, too…unless it’s too crazy far for that.
